Time Saving Tips For Your Office Commute And Business Travel.

As we return to work from office and perhaps also work from home, here are some ways to maximize your travel time. I’ve also included time saving tips for those of us who will also begin flying and taking longer car or train trips to meet with clients or attend conferences.

Enjoy. I hope these help you make your office community and business travel more productive and more enjoyable.

  1. In your car, on a bus, train or on an airplane, listen to podcasts as a great hands-free time saving solution.

  2. When you can be private (not in a waiting room or on a commuter train), have networking phone calls or calls with friends, family where it is OK to be a bit distracted.

  3. On a bus, train or on an airplane, catch up on your low-priority email you have been Cc’d on or reports and proposals that will benefit from your undivided attention.

  4. If flying, try to travel direct. Layovers are draining even though they give you time to get more reading and/or calls in.

  5. Sign up for airport pre-check / pre-clearance. One of the tedious things about airports is standing in line and going through security.

  6. If flying, know in advance the best way to get from the airport to your destination. Usually airport limo services are similar price to taxies, but they are usually much more comfortable.

  7. If driving, be sure to pre-program your route in your navigation system. Be sure to give yourself time for possible traffic jams and to find parking at your destination.

  8. Always carry a book with you for times you are unexpectedly delayed or have to wait. I visited the dentist the other day and was so happy I had a book I am reading with me because they were 15-minutes delayed. Better my book than a waiting-room magazine the rest of their clients have been leaving through.

  9. Take your travel time as the opportunity to have a rest and recharge. Enjoy the silence or put on your favourite music artist or talk show. These moments may not happen very often for you.

Thank you for reading these time saving tips as more and more of us return to our office commute and business travel.
