Time & priority management training overview

Today’s complex workspaces mean work-life balance is an important part of relevant time management skills training. Great organizations and leaders recognize that when employees know how to balance priorities, manage their energy, and focus on meaningful work, they experience greater pride in their work while also delivering stronger results, greater innovation, and long-term commitment to the company.

Our corporate time management workshop gives leaders and teams practical strategies to improve focus, efficiency, and work-life balance. Participants learn proven techniques inspired by leading experts, including Stephen R. Covey (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People®), Michael Bungay Stanier, David Allen (Getting Things Done), and Timothy Ferriss. By combining these best practices with modern change management insights, we help employees build lasting habits that drive both personal and organizational success.

See the difference time & priority management training makes

Bruce was one of three speakers we invited to present at a conference with 800 plus attendees. Bruce presented two different seminars – one on difficult conversations, and one on time management.

Bruce’s presentations were fun, informative, and he engaged the audience with relevant questions and practical examples. I'm happy to say we immediately began receiving great feedback from conference participants, clearly marking Bruce as a great addition to our speaker lineup. Bruce was very open to working with our team to create and deliver content that we knew our participants were searching for.

As a manager, I found that the day following his difficult conversations seminar, I was able to recall and successfully use some of the techniques he spoke of.

I would recommend Bruce for future speaking and training opportunities.

Benefits of Time Management Training for Your Organization and Teams

As a time management trainer, my goal is to go well beyond “teaching tips”, I help participants choose to change their approach to time management. This means giving them opportunities to change or adjust the habits they have learned that may be holding them back, and embrace and celebrate their habits that are helping them be successful. Areas I focus on include:

  1. Boost productivity and focus

By learning how to apply organize their day and week in advance using proven planning and prioritization techniques, your team will focus more of their time on high-value strategic work, while reducing distractions and managing procrastination lowering stress for themselves as well as their coworkers and clients.

  2. Strengthen boundaries and better decision-making

Your team will learn how to establish clear boundaries (and say “no” in a confident and respectful manner), to manage their workload and expectations, effectively handle interruptions from both people and technology, and remain aligned with organizational priorities.

  3. Achieve sustainable work-life balance

Time management training enables your employees to establish reliable routines, respond thoughtfully rather than reactively to challenges, confidently balance personal and professional responsibilities, and maintain high performance without burning out.

  4. Improve collaboration and communication

Your team will become better collaborators and communicators as they learn the importance of being transparent with their expectations and consistent on how they use technology and email. They will learn how to coordinate priorities and schedules more effectively, and foster a culture of respect for focus, time, and productivity.

  5. Unlock creativity and long-term value

When employees learn to effectively manage their time, they are able to dedicate time and positive energy to innovation and creativity to projects and their team / coworkers, have greater energy for their most important / most strategic work, and foster long-term engagement, satisfaction, and organizational success.

Our approach

I help participants learn to identify habits and remove distractions that sabotage their productivity and performance… and build new habits that drive succeed and improved business results.

I believe discussions about how to combine work-life balance and time management into our routine is essential for busy professionals... especially professionals with a family. As an example, a morning routine helps you, your family and your co-workers manage expectations and share your most important experiences. The following is a sample of a 'balanced' morning schedule.

I specialize in helping participants identify areas that they can choose to shift behaviour, not just knowledge, build opportunities to improve trust and collaboration, and adopt healthier ways of working that deliver real personal and professional business results.

Time & priority management tips

Focus on your priorities

You don't lack motivation or work ethic, but you may feel that everything is important.
When you focus on your priorities, you ensure your best energy goes into the work that matters the most and will positively impact your strategic objectives.

Great time management isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing your important things first.

Say "no" and still be a great team player

Work that may actually make you feel busy and that you are accomplishing something, but is not part of your key objectives is called Busy Work, and you can say No or Not Now to busy work without burning bridges.

Yes, saying No is stressful. When we do we often feel we might come across as being mean or unhelpful. We may also fear we wont get help when we need it. These are understandable and valid feeling. Unfortunately, if we don't use priority management skills we may be jeopardize our own priorities & work/life balance, health and of course, our career.

Don't let email manage you

Respond to your important email at preset times during the day (like 30 minutes early in the morning and 30 minutes at the end of your day). Then, have a few times during the day when you can check-in for new important messages. Also, schedule a time in the afternoon to write and respond to routine, non-urgent email. What you want to avoid is to have your day hijacked by answering routine email when you are at your strategic and creative best - IE: between 7AM and 1PM.

Meeting management

Similar to Tip #1, you also want to avoid having your day hijacked by meetings when you are at your strategic and creative best. Meetings keep you engaged (and awake), so, book meetings in the afternoon.

Also, be sure to have (or create), an agenda for every meeting. This helps everyone prepare - and lets them know how they are going to add / get value from attending the meeting.

Take time to relax

Everybody needs a break so you can clear your mind and come back to a situation with a fresh, creative perspective. Time Management training helps us learn techniques to step back from a situation - sometimes for a few minutes... sometimes for a few days... sometimes for a few weeks. Often our best opportunities and ideas come to us when we complete disconnect and give out minds a rest; that's why we often have great ideas first thing in the morning, in the shower or when driving.

Even procrastinating can increase your creativity and productivity.

Think & act with a win/win perspective

In a Win/Win environment, everyone wants to do their best as they work towards the best solution. Imagine the benefit of a collaborative environment when your employees efforts are focused on achieving the same goal. And, imagine the side effect of that effort is greater employee engagement and satisfaction. That is what happens when we learn to think and act with a Win/Win perspective and organizational structures are in place to support these efforts and attitudes.

What my clients say

  • I hired Bruce Mayhew to facilitate a corporate training program for our district sales managers and senior team members.

The one-day training addressed: multigenerational training to help us understand and therefore adapt management styles according to age group, and Behavioural Event Interviewing (BEI), to help us find and hire the right people when interviewing.

Bruce provided enlightened corporate training that was appreciated by all. He was flexible with the timelines and encouraged conversation and questions throughout the training that deepened our understanding. We are applying methods learned during training and it gives us perspective on new hires. His after training cooperation was also greatly appreciated.

I have no hesitation in recommending Bruce's services to anyone.

  • Bruce is an outstanding facilitator and people-connector.

IABC London worked with Bruce on a Professional Development event titled "The Changing Landscape of Work Environments." From my first communication with him, Bruce was quite simply easy to work with and professional - organized, thorough and prompt to reply.

On the day of our event he arrived early and formed a warm rapport with the speaker panel and those in the audience. He moderated our panel in a helpful and informative way that was respective of the audience's learning. I enjoyed the event immensely, and that is due to Bruce's leadership in bringing the panel of speakers together and bringing out their best insights.

Thank you Bruce for your contribution to IABC London.

  • With just a week’s notice before our workshop, we urgently needed a speaker skilled in navigating difficult conversations. Despite attempts to find someone internally, we had to turn to an external expert. Luckily, Bruce was available on short notice, and we quickly collaborated to tailor the content specifically for our group.

Bruce led a focused workshop on managing difficult conversations and managing competing expectations among stakeholders. He engaged directly with our Digital Transformation and Operations Team, who frequently face complex situations.

Bruce demonstrated a deep understanding of our team’s needs by blending practical training with relevant theory. We also worked through five real-world scenarios that addressed diverse challenges, enabling participants to immediately apply the workshop’s insights to their daily work.

It was a pleasure to work with Bruce and to have him speak to our team. His flexibility and expertise were greatly appreciated. I highly recommend him!
